I guess the next CoD by treyarch will arrive in autumn 2023, and it's a nice candidate for fresh mod tools allowing more advanced custom zombies. its trailer is more interesting than some of the BO4 DLC trailers that didn't benefit from FMV technique (like Tag der Toten's slideshow trailer).Īnyway, I believe we'll eventually see a new CoD with mod tools and custom content, but it will be released possibly by treyarch, as it looks like MP community doesn't care much about those things (except old titles like CoD4 where they're still very popular), and zombie modes by infinity ward and sledgehammer don't seem to be beloved by community at same level as treyarch zombies.

I think it's an awesome map as if being created by professional devs, but sadly it remained unnoticed.

so far, I've only played Perish and Battery in BO1, but I have to say Perish would probably enter top-10 most subscribed list on workshop, if it was released on BO3. still, the variety of custom content is nowhere as much as WaW and BO3. Yeah, I've also read (not 100% sure) that BO1 mod tools didn't function properly until some community mappers decided to go for a voluntary effort to fix it. Nothing was tested, seemingly, lots of things are unfinished, broken, don't work or are buggy as hell. Maybe Ravensoft did "build it" from the ground up with the console assets and Co, but you can clearly see its actual quality isn't better than a regular port. well it was just a simple port, nothing more. Even BO4 which was supposed to be a game "built-from-the-ground-up" and not a simple port.

My best bet is that the studios don't care about modding since 95% of their customers are on console and the only reason this game has it is because some employee was adamant about including mod support in the PC version after seeing how much great maps got over the years.ĬoD could be a lot more popular if the pricing wasn't so bad and they'd include more neat features like mod support, but that's just not how they seem to operate. I don't know who is in charge of deciding whether or not a game gets mod support, but if you look back you can see essentially none of the games had it. The studios, to some degree, do have freedom to decide how far they want to monetize their stuff. I can't remember if it was IW or Sledgehammer, but one of them also commented on BO4's $30 hammer melee reskin and said they wouldn't put something like that in their games ever. Don't wanna spend your time and resources trying to get a DLC weapon via rng boxes? Craft it via the in-game crafting menu. Didn't own the pass? You could do a challenge to earn it for free, which usually could be completed in a handful of matches. Had the SP? You'd get every new DLC weapon, its base variant on launch.

Infinity Ward did a much better job with CoD: IW and its monetization and how it handled DLC weapons. Which is funny, because Treyarch is greedier than IW from what we've seen in the past, especially with BO3. They spit out cod games frequently, so the game lifespan doesn't seem to be in their best interest. I think they choose not to include mod tools because of money.
